Join The Lumen – We Are Searching for Minds

WE ARE SEARCHING FOR MINDS. Die klugen Köpfe finden uns.

At The Lumen, we are less interested in how tidy your CV looks than in how your mind moves. If you never fully fit into ordinary structures, if you have lived through real challenges and still wake up with ambition, if you see patterns others walk past and quietly re-organise complexity in your head – we would like to hear from you.

At The Lumen, we know that brilliance does not always come wrapped in certificates. If you do not have the usual academic paperwork – for whatever reason – tell us why you are good anyway, and why you believe you might flourish here.

You can tell us who you are: what you know, what you can do, and what you want to explore next. We work remotely, with occasional in-person sessions in central London. We collaborate with partners such as iProov, Onfido, Yoti and IDnow, together with universities, clinics, governance teams and research groups.

Every candidate will work on a small real task before any decision is made – not to test you against a checklist, but to understand how your mind works and how you might fit into the team.

Current Calls for Minds

Each of these roles is a starting point, not a box. The titles are there to give shape – not to limit what you could become here.

Research Fellow – Identity Integrity & AI Assurance

For minds who can spot a structural weakness faster than most spot a typo.

You work at the intersection of people, signals and systems. In this role, you explore how identity, context and AI assurance come together in high-stakes environments – from admissions and immigration to research and clinical settings.

Professional background (click to expand)
  • Experience or strong interest in identity systems, risk modelling or AI governance
  • Ability to read and synthesise technical and policy material
  • Comfortable working with abstract concepts and making them concrete

Research Scientist – Authenticity & Deepfake Resilience

If you can tell when reality has been impersonated – before others even blink.

You design and evaluate methods for detecting and preventing manipulation of images, video and other media in public-interest contexts. You help build authenticity layers that protect institutions and individuals.

Professional background (click to expand)
  • Background in computer vision, media forensics or related fields
  • Familiarity with generative models and synthetic media
  • Interest in standards such as C2PA and content provenance

Research & Data Explorer

For people who treat datasets the way naturalists treat rare species.

You explore patterns, anomalies and structures in complex data – from identity flows to clinical pathways – and translate them into questions, hypotheses and practical insights.

Professional background (click to expand)
  • Experience with data analysis, statistics or exploratory research
  • Ability to document and communicate findings clearly
  • Curiosity across disciplines – not afraid of “odd” questions

Clinical & Education Research Liaison

For bridge-builders between institutions, not bureaucrats.

You connect universities, clinics and governance bodies, helping to frame pilot projects and align them with ethical, clinical and regulatory requirements.

Professional background (click to expand)
  • Experience in higher education, clinical research or health administration
  • Familiarity with ethics, governance or regulatory processes
  • Strong communication and coordination skills

Technical Lead – Identity Integrity & Liveness Systems

For engineers who think like architects, not just implementers.

You help shape the technical direction of identity integrity and liveness approaches, working with specialist partners and institutions on concrete architectures and pilots.

Professional background (click to expand)
  • Experience with identity verification, biometrics or security-critical systems
  • Ability to lead technical discussions with partners and vendors
  • Comfortable balancing security, usability and governance constraints

Senior Engineer – Provenance & Authenticity Layer

For people who enjoy building invisible infrastructure that makes truth verifiable.

You design and prototype authenticity and provenance layers that can be integrated into media, document and transactional systems across sectors.

Professional background (click to expand)
  • Experience with distributed systems, cryptography or secure protocol design
  • Understanding of content provenance, signing or audit trails
  • Ability to build robust, integrable components

ML/AI Engineer – Reliability & Explainability (CERTUS)

For those who want AI to be understandable, not just impressive.

You work within the CERTUS framework to develop, test and monitor models with clear boundaries, indicators and explanations for their behaviour.

Professional background (click to expand)
  • Experience in machine learning, model evaluation or MLOps
  • Interest in explainability, robustness and monitoring
  • Ability to work with both engineers and governance teams

Security & Integrity Engineer

For security minds who think in systems, not just in checklists.

You focus on the interplay between technical security, fraud resilience and trust architectures across identity, authenticity and AI-supported processes.

Professional background (click to expand)
  • Background in security engineering, threat modelling or fraud prevention
  • Understanding of identity and access patterns
  • Interest in designing controls that people can actually live with

Policy & Governance Analyst – Trustworthy AI & Digital Identity
